Indianapolis to Host 2002 Libertarian National Convention

(Indianapolis)  The Libertarian Party of Indiana is thrilled to announce that Indianapolis has been chosen to host the 2002 Libertarian Party National Convention.  The convention will be held in the Sagamore Ballroom in the Indianapolis Convention Center, and the new Indianapolis Marriott Downtown will serve as the host hotel.  The convention will take place July 4-7, 2002, and will attract approximately 2000 delegates from around the country.

Libertarian Party of Indiana Chairman Mark W. Rutherford, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, ICVA President & CEO Bill McGowan, and Libertarian National Director Steve Dasbach made the announcement at the Indianapolis City Center.  Libertarian Party of Indiana Director Brad Klopfenstein, Indiana Democrat Party Chairman Robin Winston, Indiana Republican Chairman Mike McDaniel, and former Libertarian candidates Andy Horning and Sam Goldstein joined them.

“We are very proud that the National Party recognizes all of the hard work put in by the Libertarian Party of Indiana and their supporters.  The success of elected Libertarians like Greenfield City Councilman Phil Miller, I’m sure, helped in attracting the convention.  This is a big announcement for the City of Indianapolis, as well as Libertarians throughout Indiana.”  said Libertarian Party of Indiana Chairman Mark W. Rutherford.

"This convention brings many tourists, businesses, journalists and community leaders here for the first time, and it lets us show off our city to America," Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson said.  "But it's also a chance to highlight another set of viewpoints which is healthy for any democracy."
